WSD (Beijing) Song’s Scoliosis Workshop was founded by Dr. Song Lizhi, a well-known rehabilitation therapist and scoliosis orthotist in China. The workshop provides spine health screening, diagnosis, treatment, customizing orthopaedic brace, rehabilitation training and other systematic service solutions.
WSD (Beijing) Song’s Scoliosis Workshop aims to provide spine health screening, diagnosis, treatment, customizing orthopaedic brace, rehabilitation training and other systematic service solutions for young people aged 6-18. The clinical symptom of scoliosis is not obvious in earlier stage, so it is not easily noticed by parents. Children and teenagers are in the peak of development, and scoliosis is at risk of worsening year by year along with their growth and development. Therefore, it is particularly important to strengthen the popularization and screening of scoliosis.

Dr. Song is the former chairman of People’s Liberation Army No. 306 Hospital Orthopedic Brace Center. He has been committed to the production and development of aids for scoliosis and common bone & joint diseases, and has awarded three orthopaedic design patents. As of October 31, 2021, more than 8,500 scoliosis braces have been made by himself. He has established a set of conservative treatment for scoliosis accumulating by years of clinical experience.

(1) Work philosophy – Profession
Dr. Song Lizhi said, “I have been designing and making every brace by myself, and I will continue to do so. When designing braces, I will optimize the braces according to the current scoliosis situation, height, weight and tolerance, ensuring the orthotic effect of braces not making pain and discomfort on children when wearing.”
(2) Advanced scanning device assisting the production of orthopaedic braces
Dr Song continued: “I also bought some advanced devices to combine with technical experience, to improve the effect of braces, such as:
- The Scolioscan® Ultrasound Scoliosis Assessment System: zero radiation, forming a three dimensional spine image in only 60 seconds, and the result is as accurate as X-ray examination.

- 3D optical scanner: non-contact to the human body, no radiation, no adverse effects, using for the data collection before production of braces, error ≤0.1mm.
- Software for designing brace: using for the design of “brace engraving by machine” and “3D printing brace”.
- CAD-CAM computer aided design and machining system: using for model engraving of “brace engraving by machine”, error ≤1 mm.
- Laser sintering 3D printer: using for printing “3D printing brace”, error ≤0.1 mm
(3) Work philosophy — Digitization
Dr. Song mentioned: “I will set up a detailed profile for each child with all his/her data. Having a profile will help me to design, build and adjust braces according to the child’s spine situation, age, height, and weight, to enhance the brace effectiveness.
Few years ago, WSD (Beijing) Song’s Scoliosis Workshop has introduced the Scolioscan® Ultrasound Scoliosis Assessment System, the world’s first three-dimensional radiation-free ultrasound system for spine scan, which was highly recommended by Dr. Song and his patients.
The introduction of Scolioscan® facilitates large-scale scoliosis examination at the workshop. With real-time scoliosis monitoring and timely treatment feedback, this can greatly simplify the diagnosis and treatment process of scoliosis.
